Free Beginner Cycle Rides for Adults with WinG Outdoor Activities

WinG Outdoor Activities (formerly Wayout in Gateshead) is delighted to be delivering a

programme of free beginner cycle rides designed to help adults improve their cycling confidence,

develop cycling skills and learn basic bike maintenance in a supportive and welcoming

environment.

 

These relaxed and friendly sessions are ideal for adults who may be returning to cycling after a

long break, wanting to improve confidence on a bike or simply looking to become more active

outdoors while meeting new people.

 

All sessions are completely free to attend. Participants can either bring their own bike along for

riding and basic maintenance support or borrow one of our mountain bikes for the session. We

provide all necessary cycling equipment including helmets, bike repair tools and guidance from

experienced ride leaders. Refreshments and incentives are also available to help encourage and

support people on their cycling journey.

 

Sessions run from 11am until 3pm, with a mixture of weekday and weekend rides available

throughout the programme.

 

Ride locations take place across Gateshead, Newcastle and North Tyneside, usually starting from

accessible public car parks and traffic-free routes where possible. The rides are open to all adults

regardless of where they live, employment status or previous cycling experience.

The routes are designed to be achievable and enjoyable, generally using relatively flat terrain and

distances of no more than 10 miles. Plenty of breaks are included, with rides taking place at a

gentle and supportive pace to ensure participants feel comfortable throughout.

 

These sessions provide fantastic opportunities to:
