An illustrated talk by Ken Smith.
Ken is a retired Newcastle journalist, who has written many books on various aspects of North East history including coal mining and ship building. He co-wrote 'The Great Northern Miners' with his wife Jean.
North-East miners’ trade union banners are an important part of the heritage of the former pit communities of the area. These banners are still paraded at the annual Durham Miners' Gala.
