Whickham NE16 4JL
Whickham Hermitage Community Garden is an award-winning Victorian walled garden, providing an oasis in the heart of a bustling village. It's been lovingly restored and renewed by dedicated volunteers and experts. Enjoy a walk around to appreciate the vast array of plants and visit the wildlife pond (the old mini boating lake). Garden sculptures have been created on-site by local artists; there's a children's playhouse and fairy village for little visitors to enjoy! Take a break to enjoy nature on the many seating areas along the paths, in the gazebo and the unusual igloo domes.
There's a great range of plants for sale during spring and summer (cash only please). Wheelchair accessible paths, coffee shop and toilet. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome in the Garden and the coffee shop.
This free-to-use garden has a beautiful, modern Orangery coffee shop which is independently run. It offers very reasonably priced refreshments and an opportunity to order specialist cakes!
