We see older people over 65 years old* for a range of reasons including mental health difficulties such as depression and anxiety, cognitive difficulties such as poor memory, amongst many other issues that arise during late adulthood.
*There are certain circumstances where we see people under the age of 65, these include:
- People who need a neuropsychological assessment to assist diagnosis of early-onset dementia
- Patients who have experienced a stroke and are currently an inpatient at the QE hospital
- Carers of people with dementia who are open to the Mental Health Service for Older People
We are based at Bensham Hospital; however, we work into the community as well as the Queen Elizabeth hospital.
We welcome referrals from primary sectors, secondary sectors, charitable sectors, Community Mental Health Teams as well as self-referrals as long as the patient understands and agrees to the referral.
