St Chad's is a community project based in Bensham, central area of Gateshead for over 30 years.  They have many difference services to support members of the local community including, childcare services, family support services and most recently the expansion into their thrift store (charity shop).

The thrift shop is looking for some enthusiastic volunteers to help make the shop a success.  All projects made from sales at the shop will be put directly back into the community to help children and families within the local area.

The group are looking for volunteers who have a passion of their local community and would like to help them achieve these goals while gaining some valuable work experience as they go. The project currently has a small team but it is hoped that as the shop builds in popularity there is the opportunity for the team to expand.

Volunteer activities within the shop will include:

  • Sorting and organising the donations
  • Greeting any customers and explaining what is available and what is provided
  • Pricing of the items
  • Tidying of items including clothing and bric-a-brac throughout opening hours
  • Customer service skills and cash handling for sales.

No experience is necessary at all as all required training and support will be provided.

The group do ask for a regular commitment from volunteers, and a willingness to learn and enjoy working within a diverse and motivated team.

The shop is currently open Monday – Friday 9:30am until 4:30pm and there are varying shift patterns available.
