Volunteers will play a huge part in supporting Birtley Community Pool at all levels especially with practical tasks on site in the building and the grounds, as well as to raise awareness of the work we do in the local community. They will also support a wide range of practical tasks as part of a wider team with staff and the Trustees to ensure Birtley Community Pool develops an effective and quality swimming pool service to local residents. As a practical tasks volunteer, you will be working within our small team to ensure all tasks complies with our policies especially Health & safety, risk assessments, Normal Operating Procedures (NOP). Volunteers are an integral part of our vision for Birtley Community Pool.

We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible volunteers with a “can do” attitude to join our team to assist in general practical tasks. Being able to use a variety of practical equipment (such as vacuum cleaners) is vital and an understanding of record keeping is desirable for recording tasks which have been undertaken. We are looking for people who can offer time either as a regular commitment or on an adhoc basis. No previous experience is required. We offer a range of volunteering opportunities to suit all.

Skills needed

The role can include depending on your experience/area: internal operational and maintenance tasks (e.g. checking equipment works such as hairdryers/lockers, running showers to avoid legionella), external building tasks (e.g. grass cutting, sweeping car park), supporting building development (e.g. putting up noticeboards/signage, painting), pool plant operations with suitable training being provider (e.g. running a backwash), general housekeeping duties (e.g. cleaning lockers/floors).
