Reporting a hate crime and seeking advice and support is important.
We'll be be joined every third Monday of the month at the ONE Centre by two organisations who can help - Northumbria Police and Connected Voices.
CONNECTED VOICE
Meet Emma and Hazel, we are Independent Advocates from Connected Voice Advocacy (we win awards and have been around 30 years protecting people’s rights and giving voice to people who need it)
We support people who have been targeted because of race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or transgender identity who lives in the Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner area (Northumberland, Tyne and Wear) who has:
• has experienced hate crime
• is at risk of hate crime
• perceives themselves to be at risk of hate crime
• is affected by hate crime
Abuse can look like verbal and physical attacks, threats, online, damage to property and harassment.
We welcome new cases and people can contact us themselves or someone else can on their behalf.
We will listen. We will speak on your behalf or support you to speak. We will help you understand hate crime. We will offer support to keep you safe. We will support you to report the crime if you want to. We will be with you through the criminal justice process, meeting police, giving statements and attending court. We will help you to complain or appeal if you want to. We will challenge unfair treatment.
We will share anonymous information to help improve services for victims.
We will research the impact of hate crime.
We want to help all victims of hate crime to feel safe, well, heard, independent and included.
NORTHUMBRIA POLICE
Northumbria Police’s Community Engagement Team will be attending an upcoming drop‑in session at the OUT NE / ONE Community Centre, offering a safe and approachable space for anyone who wants to talk about community safety, hate crime, or any concerns affecting LGBT+ individuals and the wider community. We’ll be there to listen, provide advice, explain reporting options, and work alongside local organisations to make sure voices are heard and people feel supported. Whether you have a question, need guidance, or just want to meet us and learn more about what we do, you’re welcome to come along.
No appointment is needed. Drop in for a friendly conversation.
