The Gateshead Sea Cadet has been in existence for over 50 years and provides young people between the ages of 10 and 18 with adventure and fun in a nautical-themed environment. The Cadets have access to sailing, rowing, power boating and other water sports plus many other activities, including camping, cooking, engine maintenance, climbing, shooting and many more.
We are currently actively recruiting Juniors and Cadets between the ages of 10 and 18. Please ring or just come along on a Monday evening if you are interested.
There are also opportunities for sailing on sail training ships from time to time.
Parents will find that the Sea Cadets quickly introduces a surprising degree of maturity into youngsters, benefiting their present schooling and their future prospects.
The slogan is, 'we exist to give young people the best possible start in life through nautical adventure and fun.'
The Unit is always happy to welcome adult volunteers to support and train our young people, subject to the usual checks and safeguarding procedures.
The Unit was awarded a 'burgee' for 2017 which is the Sea cadets equivalent of an 'outstanding' Ofsted report. One of the best Units in the Northern Area, we are very proud of our Cadets, our volunteers and Gateshead!
