Lung disease affects more than 12 million people across the UK. We’re here for every one of them. The British Lung Foundation are leading the fight against lung disease to make sure no one has to face it alone. We support people affected by lung disease and work for positive change in lung health by campaigning, raising awareness and funding research. Research Over the past three decades, we have spent more than £24 million on research to increase survival rates, improve diagnosis, treatment and care, and develop our understanding of lung diseases. We also support today’s young scientists to encourage them to develop their careers in the field of respiratory research. Prevention and campaigning We campaign for better services and care for people with lung conditions and spread the word about the causes and signs of lung disease and how to prevent it. We fight to keep the issues that matter on the political agenda – from protecting children against second-hand smoke to calling for more research funding. Supporting patients and families We bring people with lung disease together through our Breathe Easy support groups, web community and penpals scheme, while our nurses and fitness instructors support people in their communities. Breathe Easy groups provide a great opportunity for people with lung disease to meet each other, make friends and share information, experience and advice. Our high-quality health information is produced under NHS England’s Information Standard scheme so you know it’s trustworthy and up to date – and our specialist nurses and advisers are just a phone call away. Supporting health care professionals We help health care professionals to provide the best possible care for their patients, improve accessibility of services and ensure patients’ views are taken on board. We also run workshops and provide tools to help health care professionals provide their patients with the vital information they need.
