Tutoring sessions are one hour a week and occur at the same day/ time each week during term time. You'll sign up to a whole programme and work with (usually) the same children each week, supporting them in English or maths. We start in schools late September/ early October and usually work with the same children until February half term or Easter before starting with a different year group in the summer term.

Areas covered
Action Tutoring partners with primary and secondary state schools to deliver tutoring programmes for pupils in Years 5, 6, 7, 10 and 11 in English and maths.
We specifically help pupils facing socio-economic disadvantage who are at risk of leaving primary or secondary school without reaching national standards in their exams.
Our volunteer tutors support between one and three pupils for one hour a week. You’ll commit to a programme of tutoring which lasts roughly a term (10-20 weeks). Sessions can run before, during or shortly after the school day.
Skills needed
Our tutors range in age (from 18 to 82) and in background: students, corporate volunteers and retired professionals. We are incredibly proud of the diverse range of volunteers we engage, who bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the pupils they support. The qualifications we look for are:
-A degree in any subject, or to be studying for a degree.
-A B grade (or above) at A Level (or an equivalent qualification) in the subject you wish to tutor, or a related subject (for example, economics or science for maths; history or other essay-based subjects for English).
We understand that not everyone interested in volunteering with us will have completed A-Levels or attended university. If your qualifications do not match these requirements, we still encourage you to apply and we would love to hear about any other qualifications, training or work experience related to the role. We may then arrange a call with you to find out more. We take all previous experience into consideration, so please include anything you think might be relevant.
