We are looking for reliable volunteer bus drivers who will collect and return our socially isolated clients and take them to an Age UK Gateshead day centre on a weekly basis with the help of a designated passenger assistant.

Our clients live in their own homes and sometimes sheltered accommodation so it will be necessary to drive throughout the borough.  Our day centres are held in various venues and our volunteers are expected to spend the day chatting with clients whilst helping to run the delivery of this valuable service in a professional and good humoured manner.

Skills needed

A liking for and empathy with older people.
The ability to work on your own or as part of the team.
A good level of physical fitness and standard driving requirements.
Good communication skills, Excellent time keeping skills.
Knowledge of the local area.. An understanding of the need for confidentiality.
Sometimes we go out on day trips so a knowledge of the North East area would be of use.

Benefits for the Volunteer

Age UK Gateshead will pay any agreed travel expenses (bus fares etc) on production of receipts paid in the course of journeys.
Use of your car will be paid on a mileage basis for all authorised journeys undertaken.  
All necessary training will be provided.
