How Your Donated Beds Will Help
Many households in Gateshead are living in poor conditions and hardship, causing a negative impact in many areas of life including poor mental and physical health and social isolation. Research also shows that, for children, the affects can have a lasting impact on mental health, educational attainment and employment in later life.
Foundations supports many families experiencing crisis too, and when coupled with poverty, it can take a long time to rebuild a home from scratch whilst also recovering from distressing circumstances such as homelessness or fleeing from abuse and trying to settle into a new home, school and community.
Foundations wants to ensure that people in poverty, especially children, can get a good night's sleep which aids concentration in school and therefore educational attainment. For a family with no possessions at all, a clean bed for a child will help them to create a settled, safe space, often after traumatic and distressing circumstances.
March is National Bed Month, a campaign by the Sleep Council to raise awareness of how important a good, comfortable bed is in helping to achieve a good night's sleep. If you or someone you know is replacing a bed this month, or at any time in 2020, or if you have an extra bed that you no longer need, please consider passing it onto a family in need via the Foundations charity.
