Pickle Palace, Volunteer Drivers
Pickle Palace are established in Greenside Community Cricket Club and open 3 days a week.
The Social Enterprise invite people through their community kitchen doors for free food on a Monday between 11:00am and 2:00pm The group tackles issues over food waste, while making pickles, chutneys and jams out of bruised fruit and vegetables that otherwise may have been thrown out. As well as providing nutritional food to those in need the group also educate children and young people about cooking nutritional meals in schools.
The group join the community together whilst also wasting less food and educating others to do the same. The group has volunteers who help within the kitchen and support the project. There are still volunteers required to pick up donations to the project from local providers which tend to be supermarkets in the local area.
Most of the request is for weeknights and weekend pickups. Volunteers will then be tasked with taking the donations over to the relevant storage ready for the project to use the items. The volunteer will be supported and directed by the project and will be able to provide as much or as little time as possible to the project.
Volunteers will be required to use their own vehicles and could work in pairs if volunteers wish to work with someone they know. The volunteer can be involved on a regularly basis or whenever is possible.
This opportunity enables volunteers to become involved in a well-established community group, while gaining some experience of supporting vulnerable people in Gateshead.
