Our Lives Gateshead, Project volunteer

Our Lives has been established since September 2020 and is based in the heart of the community of Highfield, West Gateshead.

The group support individuals, young people and families across the area and provide a community spirit lead sanctuary when people are sometimes in a vulnerable position.

The group act as a focal point to bring the community together and to identify and signpost to other services and projects across Gateshead.

The group have several employees and volunteers who work together to deliver the joint vision of the group to provide much needed community support.

The project has a variety of projects and volunteering can include the following types of activities within the centre.

• Community gardening, growing produce and looking after them
• Tidying, weeding and planting
• Maintaining the area, watering
• Taking on responsibility for various projects
• Assisting with planning and running of events/activities

There will also be other projects so as young projects to attract young people to come and use the facilities. Volunteers who are looking for experience of working youth clubs or out of school clubs would be welcome to get involved.

Social type of volunteers are also welcomed to sit and talk to our service users while they are at the location to see how they are doing. This will involve informal discussions around what is happening and if they feel that they need to be sign posted.

The group will have a variety of different types of activities and tasks in the coming months. As a result, any skills, and experiences that volunteers can provide will be matched to an appropriate role within the group and maximised to benefit the community.

• enjoy working with young people
• media/admin experience
• document writing
• safeguarding knowledge
• food hygiene – safety
• any skills and experiences which will be relevant
• social enterprise experience
• funding experience welcome
