Who we are
We are a charity called The Carers Federation. We deliver a new service called Caregivers Connected Gateshead. It is a free and confidential service, provided to unpaid Adult Caregivers, Young Adult Caregivers and Young Caregivers in Gateshead. We provide general Information, advice and guidance as well as benefits advice. We carry out adult and young carer assessments as well as parent carer needs assessments. We also deliver peer support groups, skills and training workshops for adult caregivers and young adult carers and outreach activities for young and young adult carers.
What is the role?
The Good Neighbours Volunteer Role connects volunteers with caregivers in the community who may be feeling lonely, isolated, or need extra support. Volunteers help by offering social, emotional, or practical support through small, one-time activities or short-term tasks. This role provides real flexibility for volunteers because you can choose ‘tasks’ that suit your interests, skills and your availability.
What’s involved?
We could ask you to help local caregivers who need a little extra assistance by:
- helping with grocery shopping either in person or online.
- collecting and delivering medical prescriptions.
- driving them to their GP/hospital appointment.
- accompanying them to a social activity or appointment.
- sitting in with someone at their home to provide a caregiver with a break or time to do something away from home.
- helping with odd jobs around the house.
- light gardening.
- checking in with someone for a cup of tea and a chat.
Each week we will email you with a list of opportunities to help our caregivers. Each opportunity will be broken down to tell you about what is involved and where and when you would be needed. You can choose the opportunity that suits you and once you let our Volunteer Co-ordinator know your choice they will allocate that task to you to complete.
How we will support you
Our Volunteer Co-ordinator will have regular monthly contact with you with support and guidance throughout your volunteering adventure.
You can also come along to our monthly volunteers drop in.
Members of our team will always be at the sessions you help out at leading the activities and letting you know what help is needed.
