A volunteering opportunity to help improve and conserve Gateshead’s Countryside.

Countryside volunteers work across a range of council owned sites including Derwent Walk Country Park, Blaydon Burn, Dunston Pond, Longacre Wood, Pelaw Quarry Pond, Ryton Willows, Windy Nook Nature Park and Whitehill Nature Park.

Tasks vary depending on the time of year, and include meadow raking, woodland thinning, tree planting, hedgerow creation, footpath improvement, litter picking and Himalayan Balsam control.  Tasks take place on Tuesday’s and alternate Thursday’s.  This is a practical role, and requires a basic level of fitness.

Joining the countryside volunteers is a great way to make new friends, learn new skills and make a difference.  No experience needed and all tools/equipment provided.
