Family Hub Toy Library volunteer

There are Family Hubs within the following areas of Gateshead:

Family Hubs are now active across Gateshead providing support and links into lots of projects and services.

One of the many ways that they are supporting those families in need is by providing toy library donations where people can donate any type of items such as toys but also pick up items that they my need.

Each hub has its own type of items that they are in need of. Some will have different items that are donated.  The general type of items include:

  • baby clothes all sizes and style
  • baby bedding, moses baskets, play pens
  • small toys and educational activities
  • coats and other sleeping bag type items
  • bath toys
  • shoes in a variety of sizes and styles
  • and any other items such as prams or strollers etc.

Each hub have their own toy library and donation station which will need to be sorted through on a regular basis.  Each volunteer will be able to arrange a date and time that is suitable for them as a regular activity or as something that they would like to do as a one off.

The items will not have any price to them so there will be no need for volunteers to handle cash. Each item will be hopefully directed to someone that needs it the most.  Donation volunteers will complete the following type of activities:

  • sorting and organising the donations
  • greeting any customers and explaining what is available and what is provided.
  • sorting through any donations which are damaged and not useable.
  • tidying of items including clothing and toys throughout the opening hours
  • customer service skills and communication skills to make people aware of what the service is.

No experience is necessary at all as all required training and support will be provided.

Each family hub is open across different days and times which are included in the links above.

Each individual volunteer will be able to talk through a volunteer placement with the relevant coordinator.
