At Campground Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC), we have a dedicated visitor centre for all residents of Gateshead, Sunderland, and South Tyneside to visit and learn more about recycling, where our waste goes, and how to help the local environment.

We can accommodate groups of children and adults and our sessions are free of charge.

What we offer:

  • Sessions at the centre for groups of children and adults delivered by our coordinator
  • Community and school sessions delivered at your specific location by our coordinator
  • Tours of our waste management facilities including the Energy from Waste facility in Teesside
  • Support for teachers to help develop curriculum links
  • Promotion of local and national campaigns which encourage recycling
  • Support for schools and community action projects

Sessions we offer:

  • The 3R’s – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
  • Love Food, Hate Food Waste
  • Zero Waste Lunch Box
  • The Waste Debate
  • The Problem with Plastics
  • WEEE – recycling electronics
  • Craft and upcycling activities
  • Gardening sessions at the WRVEC garden

The above list is not exhaustive, and we welcome collaboration from schools and community groups based on curriculum objectives and action projects. We work with all age groups and any community organisations or educational establishments, and will work with you to explore how we can help you to grow knowledge and practices which support our region in demonstrating positive behaviours around the 3Rs: reduce, reuse and recycle.
