Whickham and District u3a Men's Group

The Men's Group meet on the 2nd Monday of every month. This group started October 2018. The leader of the group is Arthur Coulson. Over the past months the numbers of group members have been rising. There are about 17 members now. 

In normal circumstances they meet in the function room of the Bay Horse, Front Street, Whickham. Usually a speaker entertains for the first 45 minutes, there is a free raffle and then the majority of the men have something to eat and drink downstairs in the main pub. Also there were twice yearly outings - the last one being to the Victoria Tunnel. However during the various lockdowns the group has continued via Zoom having quizzes, individual members preparing a presentation, talking about their memories etc. 

Now (June 2021) there are tentative steps taking place to return to the pub in accordance with Government Guidelines.

Some of the talks held before lockdown included for example The Blood Bikes, Beamish Tramways, The 617 Squadron.
A new programme of speakers for 2021/2022 will be arranged as soon as possible.
