The Soundroom Community Music Project

The Soundroom Community Music Project Cuthbert Street Gateshead
About us:

The Soundroom is a music project based on Cuthbert Street near the Redheugh Bridge in the Bensham/Teams area of Gateshead. The project features rehearsal space and a recording studio.

Working with Young People

The Soundroom works with aspiring young bands and musicians by providing weekly sessions supporting their development and giving them opportunities to play and learn.

Working with Community groups

The Soundroom has maintained its work with community groups. The ‘Drop in Music Café’ continues to be very popular attracting organizations with people with learning difficulties from all over the north east. The project has supported groups for people who have had mental health difficulties.

The project regularly organizes or participates in events. These include fundraising celebratory nights which might involve bands who use the project, young people's groups, aspiring singers and songwriters. The Soundroom has worked extensively with community groups to participate in festivals eg Bensham and Saltwell festival.

In the past young people have been successful in gaining funding to play at external venues with young people's alcohol awareness themed rock nights at the Sage and Newcastle College.
