NVQ Level 1 Customer Service

Customer service is a key skill in a wide variety of job roles. This Level 1 accredited training will enable participants to learn occupational skills that will help them to stand out from the crowd to prospective employers, but also communication skills for life. 

The Level 1 Customer Service training programme is designed to help people who are looking for work, aren’t currently working or those thinking about returning to work after a break, by giving them a useful qualification, evidence that they are able to communicate effectively with both internal and external customers, and through the course activities they will have gained confidence in their work-related communications skills. This training will also benefit people who have gain previous customer service experience and would like to gain formal recognition of their skills.  


Groups of up to 12 learners will be supported by a community trainer to understand the basics of customer service, as well as what it means to work in a customer service environment. They will have the opportunity to gain new communication skills, understand the principles of personal performance and development, and how to work effectively, independently and with others, in a business environment.  

Participants will be involved in a range of activities to enhance their skills and knowledge of customer service including workshops, group discussions, role plays, written work, and observations. They will leave with the qualification and a portfolio demonstrating their experience and skills. 

Time commitment and format 

There will be a timetable of groups running on a range of different days, to enable participants to choose a time slot which fits around their lives, whether their preference is online, face to face or on specific days. Face-to-face sessions will be delivered in a community location including our own advice hub in Bridges.  

If participants miss a unit, they may be able to join another group to complete the course, schedule permitting. 

  • 2 days per week (10-4) for 10 weeks 

  • Guided Learning Hours Total: 125   

  • Self-directed Hours: 100   

  • Total Hours: 225
