Covid-Secure Support at Home for Older People in Gateshead

Happy to Help are providing reassuring support to hundreds of older people and people with disabilities in their own homes across Gateshead.

The community home help team, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, provides weekly or twice-weekly visits to look after the domestic tasks such as:-

  • Cleaning
  • Shopping
  • Prescription collection
  • Pension collection
  • Bill paying

Each customer chooses the tasks they’d like help with, leaving them in full control over their home care support package, with the freedom to change the tasks as and when they want to.

Easing the pressure and worry of doing household tasks and errands alone has far-reaching benefits. With added restrictions in place in Gateshead, the support has been vital for many residents, and has had a significant impact on mental health, wellbeing and comfort.

The service is helping people to feel less isolated and lonely too, knowing that they have a safe visit to look forward to, at the same time each week and from the same Happy to Help worker.

Relatives and carers are also experiencing lots of benefits, with many commenting that Happy to Help is alleviating the pressure they have felt, and easing anxieties about their loved ones who are alone during the day.

A relative of a Happy to Help customer said:

“I saw a difference in my mam immediately when the Happy to Help support started. The office team keeps in touch with phone calls to update us, and it’s great. It is such a massive weight off the family, knowing you’re going in.”

If you or someone you know needs support, the head office team are available every weekday between 9am and 4pm on 0191 478 5919. Or, if you would prefer to email the team instead, contact liz@teamwork-dt.co.uk.
