Rotary BRW (Blaydon, Ryton & Whickham)
Serving Our Community since 1946
(70 years and still counting)
The year our club was formed, Clement Attlee was Prime Minister, a skilled building craftsmen earned 2/6d (£4.43p) an hour, a new shirt 3/6d (£6.20p), a haircut was a shilling (£1.77p ), a 2oz bar of Cadbury's milk chocolate 2d (30p) a popular newspaper 1d, (15p) a pint of milk 2d (30p), a local telephone call from a call box 2d (30p)(with no time limit) and if you wanted to see the Doctor you just turned up at his surgery and took your turn to see him!
Although many things may have changed over the years, The BRW (Blaydon, Ryton & Whickham) Rotary Club has maintained its objective of serving our local community. Our members may have changed but our commitment to support local good causes and to our Rotary motto “Service Above Self” stays the same.
To ensure that we continue to meet these challenges, we are actively looking for more members, both men and women of all ages and backgrounds, to help us as we try to improve the lives of people in our local communities and others around the world.
By becoming a member of Rotary, you will be part of Rotary International's 1.2 million members in 34,000 clubs worldwide enjoying the benefits of business networking, personal development and meeting new friends.
