If you live in Tyne and Wear, you may be eligible for a free home safety check.

A uniformed member of staff will visit your home and carry out a risk assessment.

They will then:

  • give you detailed safety advice specific to you and your home
  • fit smoke alarms and issue protective equipment if necessary
  • offer you the opportunity to ask any questions

Home safety checks normally take around 30 to 45 minutes, but this can vary depending on your circumstances.

To find out if you’re eligible for a home safety check, complete the request form or contact your local fire
