Does your organisation need help from volunteers?
We know that many local organisations are under-resourced and facing pressure to meet increased demand for their services. We also know that through the pandemic there was an increased awareness and uptake of volunteering roles and that many people who had never volunteered before, offered to help out in their communities.
The OurGateshead website is the central brokerage website for all volunteering opportunities, so this is a good place to start. You just need an email address to set up your account.

It’s quick, easy, free and will reach a wide audience online. Add as many opportunities as you like and keep them refreshed as potential volunteers will be directed to the website all the time. Opportunities could be more long-term (formal) volunteer roles or more informal such as a one-off event. Before you post an opportunity, you may wish to let potential volunteers know:
- How the opportunity fulfils your aims and objectives and makes a real difference.
- Any particular skills or experience you are looking for.
- The time commitment you would like from a volunteer and the flexibility available.
- Whether you can offer expenses.
Put ‘Volunteer’ in your title, consider how you can make your opportunity could stand out from others and link it to as many relevant key words as possible, so that it is picked up on volunteer searches. Via your account you can also advertise your organisation, events and activities, rooms for hire etc.
