Summary
Teams and Bensham Community Care (Charity Number 1122735) specialises in supporting older people in Gateshead to age well and lead fulfilling and healthy lives. The role of Day Centre Coordinator welcomes older gentlemen to our men’s groups for lunch and activities. The role also includes providing cover at our lunch clubs on Tuesday, Wednesdays and/or Fridays when needed (overtime paid at £12.07 per hour).
- Salary: £12.07 per hour plus mileage
- Days of Working: Mondays and Thursdays plus other weekdays when our lunch club assistant is on leave/absent.
Responsibilities
-To be responsible for the care of the attendees whilst attending day centre
-To assist attendees to and from the bus
-To help serve lunches and refreshments
-To collect lunch and minibus money from attendees
-To monitor and record information in client files at the end of each day
-To be responsible for petty cash float and to balance cash and purchases each week
-To provide cover when the lunch club coordinator is off
-To supervise volunteers
-To work alongside and communicate with the driving and catering teams
-To attend management meetings with updates on the day clubs
-Report and be responsible to the Lunch Club Coordinator, or in her absence, report to the head office, raising concerns whenever needed
-Complete home assessments for newly referred attendees, making sure they are from the eligible areas if using our minibus (home assessments are paid as overtime, and your mileage expenses will be covered by Teams and Bensham Community Care)
-Make day to day decisions about eligibility of existing men’s group attendees, and when a men’s group attendee might no longer be suitable for our groups (for example, when they need personal care)
-To work within our safeguarding and health and safety guidelines
Personal Specification
-Committed, patient and caring
-Motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team, liaising with other staff, volunteers, service users and organisations.
Essential Criteria
-Excellent communication skills, enthusiastic and able to get on well with older people.
-At least 1 year of experience in managing services and/or a team of staff/volunteers
-Must be able to provide cover for other Day Centre Coordinator during periods of leave on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
An enhanced DBS check will be carried out for successful candidates (fee covered by the charity).
The role is temporary due to our reliance on charitable funding, but we expect the role to continue for 12 months at least.
