Our City, Our Truth
City of Dreams is bringing you an opportunity for young people to be involved in our newest event “Our City, Our Truth”; a chance to highlight difficulties and hardships that young people are experiencing across Newcastle and Gateshead, and help make a change.
Newcastle University are commissioning City of Dreams to create an event around social justice to commemorate the opening of their new Frederick Douglass building this November. This event will feature works from the previous Our City Our Story event that took place earlier this year, as well as some new commissions focussing around three key issues: discrimination, gender inequality, and poverty. This is where you come in!
Working alongside Young Women’s Film Academy over the next 2 – 3 weeks, your young people will participate in short filmed interviews wherein they’ll have the opportunity to tell their truths in their own words. These interviews may take place at your group location or YWFA may need you to attend an alternative location in Newcastle City Centre. Our vision is to showcase real stories told by young people in a stimulating and inspiring video installation to evoke change. We want your young people to not only be heard but listened to, connected with, and helped by those in the community with the means to do so.
If you work with young people who want to be involved, let us know by Monday, 7th October. Please include what dates would work best for your group to meet the Young Women’s Film Academy and be interviewed. Please email email@example.com
