Make your Volunteering Opportunity stand out
Do you want to make a difference in your community? Well, to do that, we need awesome volunteers – and that means your adverts need to be the best too! Here are some essential tips to help you recruit the best volunteers by making your adverts grab attention, and get people excited to join your organisation.
- Use the title format: [name of role] Volunteer – [name of organisation].
- Upload an attractive and engaging image that reflects your role and/or organisation – photos of people engaged in the activity work better than logos. Square images look best.
- Tick the relevant key words - these are then displayed on the relevant topic pages - increasing your exposure.
- Use words people would use to 'Google' your opportunity so that it’s picked up on volunteer searches.
- Ensure you complete the role description section. Use a catchy and creative first paragraph / call to action of up to 50 words at the beginning of your information that will encourage people to read more.
- Complete all sections on the form.
- Say how this role makes a real difference (to your organisation’s cause, the people / communities it serves, and your volunteers).
- Explain the type of person who might suit the role, e.g. someone with a flair for creativity / someone looking for a career with children etc.
- Add individual roles on separately to reach more volunteers, rather than one generic request.
- Review and update your roles regularly.
It’s useful to let potential volunteers know:
- Any particular skills or experience you are looking for.
- Any training included or offered.
- The time commitment you would ideally like from a volunteer and flexibility available.
- Age restrictions and DBS requirements.
- If you can reimburse expenses.
Once you have submitted your opportunity, all enquiries will be screened to remove obvious spam, and forwarded to you to deal with via your own internal recruitment procedures. Please contact the volunteer as soon as possible so they don’t lose interest.
