Citizens Advice Gateshead
We are a local independent charity who has provided up-to-date, free, and impartial advice, information, and guidance to people who live and work in Gateshead, for well over 60 years. During times of uncertainty, we help people move forward towards a fair society for all, with lives well lived.
Our specially trained advisers and volunteers cover all aspects of information and advice, including helping people with their benefits, managing their finances, helping with housing problems, navigating consumer issues, and dealing with cases of discrimination and breaches of employment law, to name but a few.
We helped nearly 16,000 people last year through our face-to-face, local advice hubs, telephone and online services.
Age UK Gateshead
Age UK Gateshead is an independent local charity. We've been working in the local community to help older people since 1972. We have 31 dedicated staff and over 90 volunteers helping us to deliver services and activities for older people in Gateshead.
Our trained advisors offer free information and advice to older people and their families. In 2017/18, our advisers helped local older people to claim over £1,250,000 that they were entitled to; over 4500 older people in Gateshead were helped by Age UK Gateshead last year.
Our volunteer befrienders visit lonely older people in the community who have no one to talk to. In 2016 our volunteers visited 300 older people who would otherwise be alone. Our day centre has a wide range of activity groups and events, such as lunch clubs and exercise classes, giving older people the opportunity to keep fit, socialise, or learn a new skill.
