Changing Lives GAP is a project providing assertive outreach to vulnerable women, who are involved in sex work or at risk of being sexually exploited, and over the age of 17. We provide emotional and practical support to individuals who may not be engaging with other services. Our person-centred, holistic approach aims to support individuals to access and navigate the services they need, and empower them to make informed choices for themselves. We support women on a 1:1 needs led basis around any aspect of their life they may need support with, such as mental health, housing, benefits and substance misuse. We specifically focus on supporting women around sexual health, safety planning, staying safe and healthy relationships. Support is identified in a needs based, client led manner; but may encompass one or more of the following approaches: Long-term tailored support designed to meet individuals needs. An allocated support worker who can meet with clients at home or in the community. A refer and accompany approach, to support clients to appointments. Holistic support around every area of a clients life. 1-2-1 support, facilitated groups, activities and ‘drop-in’ sessions. Support to HIV and sexual health clinics. Support in an informal and safe environment. Support around staying safe and safety planning. Emotional and therapeutic specialist group support. Support around self-defence. Night outreach. Opportunities to get involved in peer led research and support. We currently work across Northumbria, including Newcastle, North Tyneside, Sunderland, Gateshead, Durham and Darlington.
