Local charity, Teams and Bensham Community Care, is celebrating after being chosen by Global's Make Some Noise to receive support to continue to bring vulnerable older people together to socialise and enjoy a hot meal.
The popular day centre, based in Teams, Gateshead, will be able to continue it's men's groups, lunch clubs, hot meal delivery service and activities thanks to the generosity of the donations that people make to the Global's Make Some Noise campaign.
The support that Teams and Bensham Community Care provides is needed more than ever after a prolonged period of isolation and staying safe indoors, to help people to regain confidence and reestablish connections they have missed since March 2020.
Global's Make Some Noise Campaign this year focuses on the services that people would be "Lost Without." The campaign is being promoted in the run up to Global's Make Some Noise Day on Friday 8th October, where money is raised to give to charities across the UK to improve the lives of disadvantaged people. The funding helps people to feel safe, feel well, feel included and feel prepared, which can by through shelter and safety, by supporting physical and mental health, preventing isolation and improving life skills.
Michelle Scott, Trustee of Teams and Bensham Community Care, says "We're delighted to be chosen for support from Global's Make Some Noise, and this year's "Lost Without' campaign is one we are proud to be part of. Our centre closed for 14 months during the coronavirus crisis, and with regular wellbeing calls and hot meal deliveries, we stayed in close contact with older people in the community. Many told how lost they felt during this time, not being able to see their friends from our centre face-to-face. Many of our regular attendees couldn't wait to return, and we're so pleased to be witnessing their confidence and connections returning now that our centre is open. Thanks to the support from Global's Make Some Noise, more older people in Gateshead will be able to come to our centre were they can feel welcome, included and connected, and continue to rebuild their wellbeing amongst their friends."
