Whickham and District u3a have kept our main meetings alive over the past 15 months by using Zoom. A variety of speakers from all over the UK have presented topics such as 'The Burning Times'- a look at witchcraft in the UK, The Mitford Sisters, Three Heroines of the North East - Grace Darling, Catherine Cookson and Josephine Butler, Christine Constant -a professional ceramics artist based at Bensham Grove Community Centre.

A decision is in the process of being made how our members can safely return to monthly meetings. However as of June 2021 interest group members are beginning to meet up as per Government Guidelines. The Walking Groups, The Men's Group, The Out n About Group just to name a few have recommenced.

A programme of speakers is being compiled for 2021/22 using face to face or hybrid meetings.

In normal circumstances the information that follows is correct.  Members on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 2pm in St. Mary's Centre, Church Chare, Whickham NE16 4SH. for the main meeting. Sometimes there can be as many as 70-80 members out of the total membership list of 176, that come along to this meeting.

Talks are presented on a wide range of topics, given by speakers from the North East. Occasionally there is a social event, for example the Christmas Party. At each meeting, besides the opportunity to meet existing friends and make new ones, you will be kept a breast of what's going on and enjoy coffee/tea and biscuits. Occasionally there is a free raffle. Cost of entry £1 which includes tea/coffee/biscuits.

Why not come along as a visitor at the monthly main meeting if you are interested in joining u3a...you will be very welcome. As a first time visitor the entrance will be FREE
