Bringing Meaning to Death and Life.

As we strive to improve life for everyone it must also be considered how to die well and not sacrifice ‘quality of life’ for quantity -  a few extra weeks / months.

It’s a challenge not to be underestimated and helping people explore the reality of their mortality is a priority in a society and culture that has medicalised death and dying;  holding it at arms length and being considered a topic of distaste.  It’s the one thing in life that is certain and yet we’ve often become afraid to talk about it.  However "talking about death won't kill you".

Greater numbers of people are living longer and they’re not necessarily doing so in good health. Often they may have several illnesses, making the process of dying more drawn-out, and demanding increasingly complex forms of treatment as well as significant social, emotional, financial and health related demands.

‘The End Matters CIC’ provides a programme of activities and training around death, dying and grief; providing guidance, support, training and learning opportunities for individuals, community organisations and professionals.  The aim is to increase knowledge, skills and confidence  and promote a more ‘death positive’ attitude. It includes:

  • 'Dead Good Conversations' - Group based workshops about having open and honest conversations about death and dying as an essential part of life across all ages and how to approach this.
  • 'Lasting Legacies' - Craft based activities  based on remembering and reminiscing for those we've loved and lost and creative legacies for ourselves to leave to those who follow on from us. .
  • 'Last Orders, Please!' - Individual or group based activities looking at all aspects of Advance Planning for End of Life.
  • 'Aspects of Grief' -  Understanding the complexity of grief before and after death and how to support people
  • 'Journey's End' - Training workshop looking at the end of life and how we can support someone to die with as much peace and dignity as possible accompanied by loved ones in line with their wishes.
  • Supporting as an end of life doula - a holistic companion - supporting the dying person and their family and all involved in the caregiving, whilst honouring the uniqueness of everyone and the situation.
